Who is the animated person who accompanies you in this section?

The conquest of interplanetary space is a reality in our world of the 21st century, which evokes enthusiasm or provokes disapproval. But these marvellous exploits of our time have been preceded by others which were also audacious, accomplished in the 16th and 17th centuries, beginning with the European discovery and colonization of the New World.

It is in this context of opening to other peoples and other cultures that Jérôme Le Royer accepted very special missions. On February 2nd, 1630, God asked him to found a community of Daughters Hospitalers under the patronage of St. Joseph for the service of the “sick poor” in La Flèche’s Hotel Dieu. And, in 1635, Jérôme said YES to the “impossible” mission of founding an establishment on the island of Montreal and a center for the evangelization of the Amerindians,

In 1642, Ville-Marie was founded. In 1659, three Daughters of St. Joseph arrived in Montreal to serve the sick and the wounded in the Hotel Dieu Jeanne Mance had built. The first steps of these Sisters from France on the soil of New France will be followed by many others...in North and South America and in Africa.
