FORMER APOSTOLIC SITES IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

COTUI, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
(2001-2009)

In 2001, the Sisters in Ocoa received permission to open a mission in Cotui, a locality at approximately three hours distance from Ocoa.  The members of the Lions Club had built a residence for 35 elderly persons, entrusting the administration to the RHSJ.

Sisters Cecile Smith and Ana Nunez arrived in Cotui on October 27, 2001.  Less than a month later, 24 residents were admitted.  Most were very frail, sick and required a great deal of care.  The Sisters had paid lay staff and volunteers.  The population was very interested in this work and very generous in supporting it. In 2009, the Sisters left this nursing home and entrusted its administration to another religious congregation.
